E’ nel 1870 che Burberry brevetta il primo gabardine, una stoffa impermeabilizzata tessuta in diagonale in modo che le gocce possano scivolare via. Nel 1901 il Ministero di Guerra inglese decide di usarlo come indumento militare e solo per la fanteria, la parola trench deriva appunto trench coat cappotto da trincea. Chiama Burberry e l’accordo si fa. Nel 1970 lo vogliono tutti, intellettuali compresi. Sarà perché lo menzionava Shakespeare : “I hid me under my gabardine for fear of the storm”. Un libro, The Trench Book, ripercorre la storia di questo capo in lungo e in largo, esplorandone l’evoluzione anche attraverso bellissime fotografie.
A me piace portare il Burberry senza alcun vincolo fashion. Anzi, lo trovo meraviglioso sulla camicia da notte quando faccio colazione all’aperto appena sveglia. Qui lo indosso sopra la nightgown di seta rosa firmata La Perla e stivali di gomma verdi. Il fine settimana l’ho passato a Gualiguando, in una antica cascina del ‘600 in mezzo al bosco, senza luce elettrica. Quando viene la sera si accendono le candele e il caminetto. Il cellulare prende poco e male, le connessioni sono unicamente cosmiche.
In 1870 Burberry deposits the rights for gabardine, a water proof fabric. In 1901 the British Ministry of War decides to use it as a military garment for the footers and the word trench is born, coming from trench coat. In 1970 is a must, intellectuals included, maybe for Shakespeare’s words “I hid me under my gabardine for fear of the storm”. A book, ‘The Trench Book’, goes back in history of the famous coat and is full of amazing pictures. I love to wear the Burberry coat at all times, like trown over my pj when I have breakfast on my terrace. In the picture is worn over my nighgown by La Perla and with rain boots. I spent the weekend in the countryside of Gualiguando in an old farmhouse from the XVI century without electricity. At night we would just light up candles and the fireplaces. With cosmic connections who needs the mobile phone?
